Acerola is the fruit of Malpighia emarginata, a plant native to central  -southern America and the tropical zone of the Antilles. The shape and color make it very similar to the  cherry so as to be called “cherry of Barbados or Brazil”. It is made up of small wedges of dark orange or red colour, and its sour taste is reminiscent of that of mandarin . 

It is mainly grown in Brazil, the tropical climate being the ideal one because it prefers sandy or clayey soils. The fruit of the Acerola is oval, 1-2 cm in size, soft, juicy, with a thin skin and a large seed inside.

The juice is obtained from the fruits which is concentrated, dried and pulverized to obtain an extract with a very high vitamin C content . To know: 1 gram of dried acerola powder corresponds to about 100 grams of orange, in terms of vitamin C.
